I’m Steve Collins

My dad was a carpenter. He helped build many of the houses in Southern California. As a boy, I spent many hours on the job site and loved the smell of fresh lumber. I also gained a curiosity for how houses go together. Later I joined him and together we did everything from laying out the buildings to fixing the errors left by the framing carpenters. After that I started my own construction business and worked on many of the homes in the Newport Beach area. I’m still fascinated with how houses work.

One incident I experienced as a teen-ager really made an impression on me about the necessity for home safety. I used an electric mower to cut grass in my neighborhood. One day a little girl with bare feet was joking around and grabbed the mower’s handle. She was quickly grounded and unable to move. I hit her hands up and off the handle and she was shaken-up but very much alive. Every time a see a GFCI missing from a patio I think of that little girl.

The opportunity to locate safety issues and to show homeowners how to create a safer, healthier living space for them and their families is what drives me as a home inspector.

As an International Association of Certified Home Inspectors Certified Professional Inspector with a lifetime spent around residential homebuilding and as a former California State Licensed Contractor I am eager to help you in the purchase of your new home.
